SEDATION DENTISTRY/ DENTAL ANESTHESIA
Dentistry can be made so much more positive for many patients with sedation. For patients who need multiple teeth worked on in a single appointment dental sedation can make the appointment more relaxing and go by quicker. Our range of dental sedation options include nitrous oxide (N20)/ laughing gas, oral sedation, and fully sleep anesthesia by our dental anesthesiologist.
SLEEP DENTISTRY
Our office is certified for a dental anesthesiologist to provide sedation and general anesthesia for children and adults in our Hamden practice. We have a dental anesthesiology specialist, Dr. David Barton, as part of our team who comes to our office to provide anesthesia services for our patients. We can provide anesthesia for pediatric dentistry, special needs, and special care for anxious adults. We can provide sleep dentistry for any service including cleanings, fillings, root canal therapy, crowns, extractions, wisdom teeth, and implants. ORAL SEDATION
Oral sedation such as valium can be used for patients who need help staying calm the night before their procedure and during the procedure the next morning. We generally use a benzodiazepine such as Valium. Patients need a ride to and from the appointment. Oral sedation can be a useful tool for minimal sedation for a mildly anxious patient.
NITROUS OXIDE (LAUGHING GAS)
Nitrous oxide was pioneered by CT dentist Horace Wells in the 1840s. Nitrous oxide is helpful in reducing anxiety during a dental procedure. Nitrous oxide has no after effects and patients can safely drive home after their appointment. Nitrous oxide is sometimes combined with an oral sedative. We have a very comfortable mask system for patients to get a good airflow and relax during their visit. We have had excellent success with nervous patients using nitrous oxide for everything from cleanings to root canal therapy to wisdom tooth extractions. Nitrous oxide can also be used on kids.

The patient was struggling with a conventional upper denture and desired more retention and less gagging. Dr. Adam Abel placed 4 zygomatic implants and Dr. Scott Pearl created a fixed implant bridge for excellent function that is much more comfortable.
4-implant upper overdenture. The patient had a poorly fitting upper denture. Dr. Adam Abel placed 4 implants in the upper jaw and Dr. Scott Pearl made an implant overdenture. The new denture can be taken out to be cleaned but has excellent retention. The patient no longer has plastic cover the roof of his mouth and no denture adhesive is needed.
