Bonding Bonding is used to repair teeth that are chipped, cracked, or discolored; fill in spaces between teeth; make teeth look longer; and change the shape of teeth. Tooth-colored composite resins are used for dental bonding. The reason the procedure is called "bonding" is because the composite resin is bonded to the tooth. The advantage of bonding over crowns or veneers is that little to no enamel needs to be removed, which preserves your tooth. In addition, bonding does not require the fabrication of a restoration by CEREC or a dental lab, so treatment is more affordable. Anesthesia is usually not required for cosmetic bonding procedures. However, if the bonding is near the pulp or tooth structure has to be removed it may be best to use local anesthesia.
Bonding is one of the least expensive methods to cosmetically improve the appearance of your teeth. Your dentist will use a shade guide to match the color of the composite material as closely as possible to your natural teeth. Your dentist will prepare the tooth by etching the surface to roughen it for stronger bonding. After applying a conditioning liquid, your dentist will mold and shape the composite resin. An ultraviolet light will be used to harden the bonding material. Finally, your dentist will refine the shape of the tooth and polish it to look natural. Bonding can provide many years of joy to patients.
Pearl Dental Care uses tooth colored bonding materials for fillings. Composite bonding material can be used for fillings in a way that is very similar to how bonding is used for strictly cosmetic purposes.
Porcelain Crowns and Veneers If you have seen people with old crowns that have a line of metal along the gumline, you should be relieved to know that these are a thing of the past! Porcelain crowns and veneers are virtually undetectable as they blend in with the contours and color of natural teeth. The goal is to mimic nature and create the illusion of perfectly formed teeth.
Veneers are thin, custom-made facades over your natural teeth, which can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile. Veneers can be fabricated in a dental lab or designed and milled at our office using CEREC. After your dentist prepares the teeth for the placement of veneers, an impression will be taken so that the veneers will look and fit beautifully. A traditional impression will be taken of your teeth if the veneers will be made by a dental lab technician. Unlike crowns, only a small amount of enamel needs to be modified for the placement of veneers- as much of your natural tooth as possible remains behind the veneer. Veneers can be used to close spaces, provide whiter teeth, and improve the shape of teeth. Veneers can result in amazing transformations. We have had patients literally cry with joy with after seeing the dramatic changes veneers can bring to their smile.
Teeth Whitening We offer two forms of teeth whitening at our practice- in-office and take home. The in-office teeth whitening uses a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide. The results are quite noticeable as soon as the teeth whitening procedure is complete. For take-home whitening, an impression is taken of your teeth and soft whitening trays are fabricated to exactly fit over your teeth. Prescription whitening gel is used to whiten teeth. Some patients achieve dramatic results. It's important to avoid foods such as coffee and soda that stain teeth to get the best results.
